Legendary NYC Point Gods/Guards Get Spotlight From Showtime, Kevin Durant

UPDATED July 6, 2022: Showtime Sports Documentary Films has released the official trailer and poster art for its upcoming documentary NYC Point Gods, an in-depth look at such legendary New York City point guards from the 1980s and ’90s as Rafer Alston, Kenny Anderson, Mark Jackson, Stephon Marbury, God Shammgod, Kenny Smith, Rod Strickland and Dwayne “Pearl” Washington.
NYC Point Gods, produced in association with Kevin Durant and business partner Rich Kleiman’s 35 Ventures division Boardroom, will be available across the network’s streaming and on-demand platforms for Showtime subscribers July 29.
June 2, 2022: Calling them "some of the greatest showmen and floor generals in basketball history," Showtime Sports Documentary Films will air NYC Point Gods, a film “spotlighting the enduring impact of New York City point guards who honed their craft and developed their legendary showmanship on the city’s iconic playgrounds and high school gyms in the 1980s and ’90s.”
The documentary is a collaboration between Showtime and NBA star Kevin Durant and business partner Rich Kleiman’s Thirty-Five Venture’s Boardroom.
Among those featured are Rafer "Skip To My Lou" Alston, Kenny Anderson, Mark Jackson, Stephon Marbury, God Shammgod, Kenny Smith, Rod Strickland and Dwayne “Pearl” Washington.
"Everyone knows a NYC point guard when they see them,” Durant said via Showtime.
“And the Point Gods of this film were instrumental in changing the game for everyone. We are really excited to honor them through this doc, and I know basketball fans will really appreciate it.”
NYC Point Gods is scheduled to premiere July 29 (9 PM ET).
According to Showtime Sports, “Their transcendent style is etched in the consciousness of all who have witnessed these prodigies. The New York City point gods’ lasting impact on the game of basketball can be seen around the world, in virtually every league.”
“As a basketball fan who marveled at the skill and showmanship of each of these point gods, I couldn’t be prouder of this film for its faithful depiction of a special time and special place in basketball history,” Stephen Espinoza, president, Sports and Event Programming, Showtime Networks, said via the company.
“New York City produced some of the greatest showmen and floor generals in basketball history, players whose creativity and style — and signature moves — continue to influence the game today.”
