Sports Destination Sqor Rebrands, Adds Brett Favre In Role As Editorial 'QB'

Special to NYSportsJournalism.com

June 17, 2013: It's good to have a Hall of Fame-level quarterback when you are rebuilding your team.

The online sports destination formerly known as Virtual Fan Network officially relaunched today as Sqor, aiming to connect "fans to the athletes and sports they love."

The San Francisco-based firm also said that former NFL quarterback Brett Favre has joined the board of directors for Sqor.

This past April, Favre worked with the Web site to provide insight to the NFL Draft.

In his role, Favre will be responsible for "advising Sqor's athlete acquisition team on dealings with the biggest stars in sports, giving input on new business opportunities and promoting Sqor as a product ambassador," according to the company. Favre will also serve as a senior counselor on Sqor's business interests with leagues, conferences, teams and player associations.

"Brett Favre is someone who understands innovation, audience and competing to win," Sqor CEO Brian Wilhite said in a statement. "Brett's appreciation of the needs of professional athletes and the relationship between the athlete and the fan are what makes Brett's involvement with Sqor so valuable," said .

Sqor said that it combines the latest from social networks such as Twitter and Facebook; sports news sites including Sporting News and ESPN; and video, photo and original athlete-produced content.

According to Favre, "When I first met Brian Wilhite and the team behind Sqor, I was impressed by what they were setting out to do. The success to date has been awesome, and I think the sky is the limit with Sqor. I am excited to be joining the Board of Directors and looking forward to contributing in any way that I can to help the company succeed."
