Ticket To Ride: Super Bowl, World Series, CFB Top-Selling 2018 Events Via StubHub

By Barry Janoff

December 4, 2018: Everyone has their favorite sports and music events of 2018, but StubHub has the numbers to show which events actually were the best-sellers for the past year.

Topping the list: Super Bowl LII with the New England Patriots vs. Philadelphia Eagles as the best-selling ticket in the U.S., Anthony Joshua vs. Joseph Parker as the top-selling event worldwide (excluding the U.S.), Bruce Springsteen as the top-selling musician in U.S. tickets and Ed Sheeran as No. 1 in music worldwide.

The information was revealed by StubHub in its fourth annual Year in Live Experiences report.

"The power of live experiences transcends languages and borders," Sukhinder Singh Cassidy, president of StubHub, said via the San Francisco-based company.

"This year, StubHub saw fans from 144 countries cross borders to travel to live events, indicating that shared experiences pull people together, even during challenging times.”

After Super Bowl LII, among the Top Ten best-selling sports event in the U.S., the 2018 College Football Championship with the Alabama Crimson Tide vs. Georgia Bulldogs was No. 2; followed by Games 3-4-5 from the 2018 World Series between the Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers, all played in Los Angeles.

Game 2 of the World Series, played in Boston, came in at No. 9.

Worldwide, Anthony Joshua was No. 1 and No. 2 (vs. Alexander Povetkin), followed by three NFL games in London and a NBA game in London.

Cassidy said that with nearly 200,000 StubHub customers crossing borders to attend more than 30,000 events in 2018, “It’s clear that people continue to love being with fellow fans, seeing their favorite artists or teams live."
