Tim Tebow Takes Top Spot Among NFL Players In Jersey Sales

Tim Tebow's Broncos jersey topped the sales list for April at NFLShop.comMay 6, 2010: He may not have been No. 1 in the 2010 NFL Draft, but Tim Tebow can now claim the top spot in another category: His Denver Broncos jersey was the No. 1 best seller in April, according to the NFL.

Tebow was drafted No. 25 overall in the first round on the evening of April 22, meaning that his official jersey topped the sales list for the month even though it was available for only about a week at NFLShop.com.

The league did not release sales figures. The Tebow home jersey (pictured) was selling for $94.99, the alternate jersey for $79.99-$94.99 (depending on size) and the Tebow youth jersey for $59.99.

Tebow's presence was also a boon for the entire team as Denver led the league in merchandise sales last month at NFLShop.com, up from No. 10 among team sales for the year ending March 31. Prior to Tebow hitting the top spot among players, no other member of the Broncos had made the top 25 this year, per the NFL.

No. 2 on the April list was Donovan McNabb, who was traded from the Philadelphia Eagles to the Washington Redskins. McNabb's Eagles' jersey was not among the top 25 for the year ending March 31.

Another veteran whose jersey sales benefited from joining a new team was LaDainian Tomlinson. His San Diego Chargers jersey was No. 16 in sales for the year ending March 31, but after the New York Jets signed him in March as a free agent, his Jets' jersey jumped to No. 6 in sales for the month of April.

In addition to Tebow, two other rookies made the Top Ten in jersey sales for April: No. 2 overall selection defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, whose Detroit Lions jersey was No. 8; and No. 1 overall pick quarterback Sam Bradford, whose St. Louis Rams’ jersey was No. 9 in sales, according to the NFL.

The Top Ten also included: Drew Brees (New Orleans Saints), Peyton Manning (Indianapolis Colts), Brett Favre (Minnesota Vikings), Tony Romo (Dallas Cowboys) and Troy Polamalu (Pittsburgh Steelers).

Although there were seven quarterbacks on the list, sales of Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger dropped from No. 11 for the year ending March 31 to out of the top 25, which coincided with the announcement of his six game suspension for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy.
