Telemundo Deportes Continues Marketing Push For FIFA Women’s World Cup

By Barry Janoff

May 13, 2019: Telemundo Deportes continues its march toward the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France (June 7-July 7) with the latest Hispanic-language spot in its umbrella campaign.

Under the tag line, "Si lucharon para jugarlo, cuida lo que van a hacer para ganarlo" ("If they fought to play it, watch what they are going to do to win it”), the new spot, Mira lo que lucharon para jugar la Copa Mundial Femenina de la FIFA por Telemundo (“See what they fought to play the FIFA Women's World Cup on Telemundo”) focuses on behind-the-scenes action with minimal shots on the pitch.

In it, such players as Christen Press (U.S. striker), Vanina Correa (Argentine goalkeeper), Su Helen Galaz (Chilean defender) and Érika Dos Santos (Brazilian defender) show “the strength and perseverance of unstoppable female athletes.”

(“Vanina Correa, Su Helen Galaz, Erika Dos Santos, Christen Press, like the other players of the FIFA Women's World Cup, have left everything to be there. If they fought so hard to get there, look what they will do to win the cup from June 7 exclusively on Telemundo”).

The NBC Sports Group division is the exclusive Spanish-language partner in the U.S. for the tournament.

“With this campaign we aim not only to highlight the stars of the game and get people excited to watch the Women’s World Cup, but also to help inspire young women to reach their full potential through participating in soccer,”  Karen Barroeta, svp-marketing and creative for Telemundo Networks, said via the media company.

“Telemundo is honored to join forces with the U.S. Soccer Foundation to enable more girls to get in the game while enriching the communities that we serve.”

The spot, which broke on Mother’s Day, will air across Telemundo and NBC Sports Group network, digital and social media platforms as part of a multi-media campaign for the upcoming tournament,

The full 60-second spot, which also will air in 15- and 30-second versions, translates to:

Vanilla: “Although this doesn’t look like it, this is a World Cup commercial.”

Su Helen: “What were you expecting to see? An athlete in slow motion?

Erika: “It’s not a mega-production by some famous director, This is a women’s World Cup commercial.

Christen:”This is why we fight. And nothing can hold us back.”

Text: FIFA Women’s World Cup 2019. If they fought this hard to play it, watch what they are going to do to win it.”

Fox Sports is the official English-language broadcast partner in the U.S.
