Deal Him In: Tom ('LFG!') Brady Joins WNBA Las Vegas Aces As Minority Owner

March 24, 2023: The defending WNBA champion Las Vegas Aces have added another champion to the team with Tom Brady acquiring an ownership interest.
Financial terms of Brady’s investment, which is subject to WNBA approval, were not disclosed.
“Honored to be joining the Las Vegas family, a world-class organization with a team of incredible athletes,” Brady, who retired from the NFL last month following a career that included seven Super Bowl titles, said in a video posted to social media.
“I grew up with three older sisters, They were incredible athletes role models who inspired me. I’m ready to contribute in any way possible.”
The Aces relocated to Las Vegas from San Antonio — where they were known as the Stars — prior to the 2018 season, and were purchased by Mark Davis before the 2021 campaign.
“Since I purchased the Aces, our goal has been to win on and off the court,” Davis, who is also principle owner for the NFL Las Vegas Raiders, said via the WNBA team. “Tom Brady is a win not only for the Aces, and the WNBA, but for women’s professional sports as a whole.”
Following the 2019 NFL season, when Brady left the New England Patriots to sign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he was considering signing with the Raiders, according to various news reports.
Now, he gets to sit in on meetings with Davis.
“I have always been a huge fan of women’s sports, and I admire the work that the Aces’ players, staff and the WNBA continue to do to grow the sport and empower future generations of athletes,” said Brady, who has seen the Aces play in person in Michelob Ultra Arena.
Following a game in July 2022, Brady, who was courtside with Davis, and Vegas All-Star Kelsey Plum admitted having a mutual admiration for each other as athletes. Brady later sent Plum a gift box that included a signed jersey with the words, "Kelsey, you are amazing. Good luck! LFG!”
Photo: Tom Brady“My love for women’s sports began at a young age when I would tag along to all my older sisters’ games," Brady said in his video. "They were by far the best athletes in our house. We celebrated their accomplishments together as a family, and they remain a great inspiration to me.”
The Aces, led by WNBA Coach of the Year Becky Hammon — who as a player was named the WNBA's 15th, 20th and 25th Anniversary Teams — have had a productive off-season.
Among other moves, they signed free agent Candace Parker, two-time WNBA champion (Los Angeles Sparks 2016, Chicago Sky 2021) and league MVP (2008, 2013).
Aces star A’ja Wilson is also among the top players in the league.
The 2023 WNBA All-Star Game is in Las Vegas in July.
Alliegiant Stadium will host Super Bowl LVIII in February.
“It was just a matter of time before I was back in the building with some of the greatest athletes in the world,” said Brady.
“What an honor. LFG!”
The WNBA season is scheduled to begin May 20. The Aces' first home game is May 27 hosting the Sparks.
