January 2019: Fear the Deer. Respect the Greek Freak.

Coming off a 2017-18 season in which the franchise celebrated its 50th anniversary, the Milwaukee Bucks entered the 2018-19 season with a new arena, Fiserv Forum, and an new sense of pride and passion.

Entering the 2019 calendar year, the Bucks had the best record in the NBA and arguably the league’s best player, Giannis Antetokounmpo.

A sign of the times: This past December, Antetokounmpo led the Bucks past the New York Knicks in Milwaukee's first Christmas Day game in 41 years, nationally televised on ESPN.

The ownership group led by Wes Edens and Marc Lasry paid $550 million for the franchise in 2014.

The Bucks franchise is now valued a just over $1 billion, according to Forbes.

“We will work to revitalize Milwaukee and further engrain the Bucks organization into this vibrant community.” Peter Feigin, Bucks president, said via the team.

Last June, the team signed a $200 million, seven-year deal with Fox Sports Wisconsin, including $26 million for TV rights this season, according to local reports.

Fiserv Forum, home to the Bucks as well as the Marquette University Golden Eagles men’s basketball team, includes 17,500 seats for basketball and up to 18,000 for concerts, with 34 luxury suites and three clubs.

The cost of the venue was put at $524 million. Naming rights were put at $100 million over 25 years by industry analysts.

The arena is the centerpiece of a 30-acre business, residential, cultural and entertainment revitalization in the heart of downtown Milwaukee.

Founding Partners for Fiserv Forum include BMO Harris Bank, Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin, Johnson Controls and Miller Brewing Company.

"We are excited to partner with the Milwaukee Bucks to create an unprecedented opportunity to elevate our brand as one of the world’s leading providers of financial technology and payment services,” Jeff Yabuki, president and CEO for Fiserv, said via the company.

“We also expect this arrangement to further differentiate our brand in support of our purpose of delivering value and excellence to our clients every day.”

With a nod to its past, the Bucks and Mitchell & Ness this season launched the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Collection, which incorporates the Bucks’ first logo and Abdul-Jabbar’s iconic goggles that became synonymous with his Hall of Fame career.

With a look to the future, Antetokounmpo has become one of the faces of the NBA, including deals with Nike — with his first signature shoe due this year — JBL, Tissot, BMO Harris Bank and the cover athlete for NBA 2K19.

“Giannis is the future of the NBA and his drive and athleticism have made him an undeniable force in the league,” Alfie Brody, vp-marketing for NBA 2K, said via the company.

“He’s the perfect cover athlete and we’re excited to feature him as our very first international cover star, as NBA 2K has a strong following with fans all over the world.”
