September 7, 2010: With the 2010 NFL season fast approaching, ticket marketplace StubHub has ranked the opening day NFL games, based on sales ranking as of Sept. 3 according to gross ticket sales per contest at www.StubHub.com.
The usual suspects are there — the Dallas Cowboys, Minnesota Vikings and New Orleans Saints — as are both the New York Giants and New York Jets, both of whom will play their games in the New Meadowlands Stadium on Sept. 12 and Sept. 13, respectively. The Jets game hosting the Baltimore Ravens also launches Monday Night Football on ESPN for 2010.
“Football fans have been anxiously awaiting the official kick-off to the season, as illustrated by the surge in sales, particularly for each team's respective home opener,” Joellen Ferrer, public relations manager at StubHub, said in a statement. “The average prices paid for tickets are a true gauge of demand and represent the wide range of vantage points and experiences selected by fans."
Not surprisingly, Tony Romo (Dallas), Brett Favre (Minnesota) and Drew Brees (New Orleans) play significant roles in driving their respective teams into the StubHub Top Ten season openers.
According to StubHub, consumers paid $76 on average to catch Favre's home opener in Minnesota last year. This year, they are paying an average of $106 to see him play the Miami Dolphins on Sept. 19. The two Vikings games cracked StubHub’s Top Ten list of home openers.
There is a huge demand for the defending Super Bowl champion Saints opener against the Vikings, with tickets averaging a list high $375. New Orleans will travel to San Francisco for the 49ers home opener on Sept. 20. The two games were ranked No. 4 and No. 5, respectively.
The New Meadowlands Stadium will host to two of StubHub’s Top Ten home openers: the Giants vs. Panthers on Sept. 12 and the Jets vs. Ravens on Sept. 13.
According to Ferrer, "Fans continue to turn to StubHub to find the best selection of seats up until kick off, while ensuring purchases are made in a safe, secure environment backed by StubHub’s 100% FanProtect guarantee.”
