Swing Time: Topgolf Builds Music Platform With Battle Of Bands TV Competition

NYSJ Sports-Entertainment Business News Service

April 26, 2018:
Stating that “Music is at the heart of our brand,” golf-entertainment destination Topgolf has unveiled a reality battle of the bands show, Who Will Rock You, which could make a star out of a currently unknown band.

Who Will Rock You will feature eight unsigned rock and country-music bands and solo artists in a weekly, elimination-style show.

The eight-week competition is scheduled to premiere on Topgolf TV on May 10, then run every Thursday until the series finale, scheduled for June 28.

Marketing support includes a preview spot, Internet, social media and on-site activation.

The winning band will receive $25,000 and a tour of Topgolf venues nationwide.

"Music is at the heart of our brand, and Who Will Rock You is the next expression of an authentic Topgolf experience," YuChiang Cheng, media president for Topgolf, said in a statement .

”Not only can our fans come to Topgolf to hear great music, but now they can discover new artists through Who Will Rock You.”

The show will feature celebrity judges, including nationally syndicated radio host Bobby Bones and country music artist Maggie Rose.

It will be hosted by E! News correspondent Sibley Scoles.

The winning band, to be unveiled during the series finale, will be selected by the celebrity judges and an audience of Topgolf guests, according to Topgolf.

The series will be filmed at two Topgolf locations: The Toyota Yard at Topgolf Las Vegas and The Cowan at Topgolf Nashville.

Both venues host dozens of national and local artists each year and accommodate up to 900 and 600 guests, respectively, according to Topgolf.

"Topgolf and live music are a natural fit,” said Cheng.

“When you combine our massive fan base with our nearly 40 U.S. venues, Topgolf is uniquely positioned to serve the artist community while providing our guests with an exciting, new entertainment experience both in-venue and online.”

Bands competing on Who Will Rock You include:

• Chris "OZ" Ferrara (Sharon, Mass.)
• Crimson Riot (Las Vegas, Nev.)
• George Shingleton (Grafton, W.Va.)
• The Love Elektrik (Sweden and Pittsburgh, Pa.)
• Lovesick Radio (Columbus Ohio, and Las Vegas, Nev.)
• Mignon (Houston, Texas)
• The Revival (Little Rock, Ark.)
• Rockie Brown (Las Vegas, Nev.)

Topgolf produced Who Will Rock You in partnership with Matador Content (which also handles Paramount Network's Lip Sync Battle, ABC's Boy Band) and show runner Jeff Boggs from USA's Nashville Star.

The deal for Who Will Rock You was brokered by Creative Artists Agency (CAA).
