• ESPN and Uninterrupted, the digital media company founded by LeBron James and Maverick Carter, will debut an original series, More Than An Athlete, Nov. 20, exclusively on ESPN+. The eight-episode series follows James’ journey from basketball prodigy to global sports icon, businessman and philanthropist via the bonds of friendship and partnership among four men over more than two decades: James, Carter, Randy Mims and Rich Paul.

• The NFL and Mexico's President-Elect Andrés Manuel López Obrador confirmed that the third game of the existing agreement signed in 2016 will be played in 2019 at Estadio Azteca. The date and time of the game will be determined in conjunction with the release of the 2019 NFL schedule next spring

• NBC Sports and the Premier League are partnering to present their second Premier League Mornings Live, scheduled to take place in New York on Saturday, Dec. 8. The event will include a turf pitch, the Premier League trophy, club mascots and special guests. The initial fan fest in September was attended by more than 2,000 on a rooftop overlooking the U.S. Capitol in Washington D.C.

TopSpin Returns For Annual Table Tennis Tourney To Support Underserved Youth

December 5, 2017: The New York Giants need a coach and GM, the New York Yankees hired Aaron Boone as their new manager and the New York Knicks are improving but still struggling on the court.

But the big sports news in the Big Apple this week is that TopSpin continues to support youth education in New York City with its charity table tennis tournament and party.

TopSpin, a national philanthropic group dedicated to empowering America’s youth through education, said it would bring together more than 1,200 members of the sports, media and entertainment industries — including 14 of New York’s top restaurants on — Dec. 6 (6:30-11:30 PM) in Manhattan’s Metropolitan Pavilion.

"We’re pleased TopSpin’s impact to underserved youth in New York City has continued to grow,” Peter Farnsworth, founder of TopSpin Charity, said in a statement

“Every child — regardless as to the zip code into which they’re born — deserves access to a well-rounded, quality education. TopSpin is a vehicle for the sports and entertainment industry to help do something about it.”

TopSpin is getting its message out via a dedicated Web site and social media including Facebook, Twitter and InstaGram.

Professional players from USA Table Tennis will participate in the ninth annual event. Several former pro basketball players as well as numerous pro teams are expected to play in the celebrity tournament.

Athletes who have participated in past TopSpin events in New York and/or Las Vegas include Chris Paul, Stephen Curry, Julius “Dr. J” Erving, Sue Bird, Megan Rapine, Swin Cash, John Starks, Isaiah Thomas, Paul Pierce and Elena Delle Donne.

TopSpin said it would donate all proceeds secured in 2017 to four charities and two of TopSpin’s newly developed programs aimed at increasing the educational opportunities for underserved youth: A Better Chance — Fayetteville-Manlius; Horizons – Brooklyn Friends School; Oliver Scholars; Harlem Academy; TopSpin Hoops Academy; and TopSpin Harlem Lacrosse & Camp Cedar.

Since 2009, TopSpin said it has raised $3 million for 22 educational nonprofits while also developing dynamic programmatic initiatives, such as the TopSpin Hoops Academy and a weeklong camp program with Harlem Lacrosse.
