Marketers Send United Football League Premiere Season Out In Style

December 2, 2009: The 'premiere" season of the United Football League has come and gone, with the Las Vegas Locomotives champs and now Florida Tuskers QB Brooks Bollinger was selected as the 2009 Motorola season MVP and Florida Tuskers head coach Jim Haslett named the 2009 Men's Wearhouse Coach of the Year.

Following Las Vegas' 20-17 victory over Florida in the title game on Nov. 25, DeDe Dorsey of Vegas was named Title Sports Drink championship game MVP. Other key partners include StubHub, ANC Sports, GameWear and Riddell, Media partners were Versus and Mark Cuban's HDNet.

The league tested some out-of-the-box marketing strategies, including putting such brands as StubHub on the front bumper of helmets.

The Motorola season MVP and Men's Warehouse coach of the year were named with the help of fan voting. Like many of the UFL's players and coaches, both Hasslett and Bollinger had their pro roots in the NFL.

"Being named the first MVP, especially as voted by the fans, is a tremendous honor and is a bittersweet ending to an almost perfect season," Bollinger said in a statement. "I was very fortunate to be part of the Tuskers' offense and would never have received this award without their support.."

The UFL said it plans to expand from four to six teams for 2010, with Los Angeles and Hartford at the top of the list, and also ramp up from a six to a ten-game season.
