Under Armour Adds Boston College To Roster Of Sports Partners

December 1, 2009: Sports performance apparel and footwear company Under Armour said it has signed a deal with Boston College to become the official outfitter of Boston College athletics, effective July 2010. Under Armour will replace Reebok in the category.
 
The six-year, multi-million dollar agreement gives Under Armour the right to provide uniforms, apparel and footwear to each of the Eagles’ 31 varsity sports, including football, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s ice hockey and field hockey. The deal also includes an annual Under Armour product allowance as well as a rights fee, marketing entitlements, event tickets, and retail licensing rights.

Among other Under Armour university athletic deals are Texas Tech, Maryland, South Carolina, Auburn and South Florida.
 
“As one of the bellwether athletic programs of the Northeast and a perennial national championship contender, Boston College is an ideal match for the Under Armour brand," Kevin Plank, CEO and founder of Under Armour, said in a statement. "The Eagles’ rich heritage across multiple sports is a testament to the dedicated athletes and administrators who strive to be the best.”
 
According to Gene DeFilippo, the school's athletics director, “Boston College is very excited to introduce this new partnership with Under Armour. Under Armour is committed to making all student-athletes better, and we look forward to working with them to provide all our student-athletes with the best chance to excel on the national stage.”

Under Armour's list of sports endorsers includes NFL players Ray Lewis, Brandon Jacobs, Devin Hester and Santana Moss; MLB players Ryan Zimmerman, Nick Markakis and Alfonso Soriano; MMA's Georges St.-Pierre, downhill skier Lindsey Vonn, lacrosse star Paul Rabil and U.S. Olympic snowboarder Lindsey Jacobellis. The third annual Under Armour All-America Game, which features 85 of the nation’s top high school football players as selected by ESPN and its Scouts Inc. division, will be played on Jan 2, 2010 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg , Fla., airing live on ESPN.
