New Sign At The USOC: Help Wanted

Stephanie Streeter, departing as acting CEO for the U.S. Olympic Committee.October 7, 2009: Less than a week after the International Olympic Committee put an end to Chicago's bid to host the 2016 Olympics, the Board of Directors of the U.S. Olympic Committee said it would form a search committee and hire a recruiting firm "to assist in identifying candidates for the position of Chief Executive Officer" to replace acting CEO Stephanie Streeter.

Streeter, who was named to the position after Jim Scheer resigned this past March, has asked not be considered a candidate, according to the USOC. Scheer held the position for six years. Streeter will remain in her current capacity until the search for a permanent CEO is concluded and a candidate is named.

The USOC recently signed a marketing deal with Procter & Gamble, but has lost over the past two years such marketing partners as General Motors, The Home Depot, Kodak, John Hancock, Kellogg's and Bank of America.

This past January, Lisa Baird was named CMO of the USOC, replacing Rick Burton, who resigned after about a year in the position. The USOC also has come under fire for unveiling a plan to launch a 24/7 TV network devoted to the Olympics, and has had revenue-sharing issues with the IOC, both situations that analysts said might have been part of the reason IOC delegates eliminated Chicago in the first round during voting on Oct. 6 for the 2016 host city, which went to Rio de Janeiro.

"When we asked Stephanie to serve as acting Chief Executive Officer in March, we did so knowing of her strong management skills and mindful that the USOC was at a critical juncture in many ways - facing the economic crisis, preparing for the Vancouver 2010 Games, and supporting Chicago in its bid to host the 2016 Games," Larry Probst, USOC chairman, said in a statement. "She graciously agreed to take on the challenge and has been an outstanding chief executive. We were disappointed when Stephanie told us she did not want to be considered for the permanent CEO position. She has done an excellent job, and we are all very grateful for her many contributions to the U.S. Olympic Movement."

"With the decision now made regarding the Chicago bid, it is time for the USOC to focus its full effort on our athletes' preparation for [the 2010 Winter Games in] Vancouver, and the organization's long-term strategy, as well as shaping the USOC's relationships with its stakeholders and the international community," Streeter said in a statement. "Knowing that I am focused on returning to the corporate arena, I thought now was the ideal time to let the USOC know of my future plans and allow them to start with a clean slate."

Official USOC Partners: GE, McDonald's, Coca-Cola, P&G, Acer, Atos Origin, Anheuser-Busch, Omega, Panasonic, Samsung and Visa.

Official USOC Sponsors: Adecco, 24 Hour Fitness, Allstate, Deloitte, Hilton Family, Jet Set Sports, Nike, Tyson and United.
