March 12, 2010: Calling him "one of the NFL's most electrifying and controversial stars," Spike TV said that NFL quarterback Michael Vick, has joined the cast of Pros vs. Joes, the reality show that pits current and former athletes again "regular" dudes.
This will be Vick's second reality show, following The Michael Vick Project that began airing on BET in January. However, unlike the BET series, which is grounded on the events in Vick's life that saw him go from hero to fallen, jailed star due to his involvement with a dog fighting operation, the back to the NFL, Pros vs. Joes will be the first since his reinstatement in the NFL to put the spotlight solely on his athletic skills.
Pros vs. Joes, entering its fifth season, will feature football and basketball competitions. Vick's team leans heavily on players who either are or have been on the roster of the Philadelphia Eagles, including current veteran QB Donovan McNabb, former QB Jeff Garcia and former wide receiver Terrell Owens (2004-05), who is currently a free agent after playing for the Buffalo Bills in 2009. Owens and Garcia were also teammates on the San Francisco 49ers.
The other athletes with NFL resumes include Antonio Gates, Warrick Dunn, Isaac Bruce and Derrick Brooks.
The roster of hoops athletes, all of whom have retired from the NBA, includes Hakeem Olajuwon, Chris Mullin, Kenny Smith, Brent Barry, Isaiah Rider and Rick Fox.
Spike said taping for the show with Vick will take place over the next week in Los Angeles and will debut July 14. Hosts are Michael Strahan and Jay Glazer. This is the second athlete-based reality show unveiled this week scheduled to air this summer: Chad Ochocinco will star in The Tournament on VH1 in which he will chose a dating partner from among 85 women.
