Volkswagen Drives Ahead With MLS

March 16, 2009: Volkswagen of America said it has renewed its deal with Major League Soccer and Soccer United Marketing to be the league's official automotive partner. Financial terms of the multi-year deal were not disclosed. Volkswagen became an MLS partner last year after Honda decided not to renew its MLS alliance after 12 years. Volkswagen is also in the second year of a five-year jersey sponsorship deal with D.C. United, which includes its name on team jerseys and numerous marketing initiatives. The deal enables Volkswagen to continue its entitlement of the MLS MVP awards, including full season, MLS All-Star and MLS Cup recipients, as well as marketing rights for live in-stadium, grassroots and national TV. "The relationship with MLS strengthens our connection with our target consumers in the U.S. market, particularly families, sports fans and multicultural audiences," Tim Ellis, vp-marketing at Volkswagen of America, said in a statement. "Additionally, MLS's aggressive expansion plans closely align with Volkswagen of America's long-term growth strategy." The MLS 2009 season begins March 19. Back to Home Page
