• Tony Wyllie has been named regional president and managing director for Special Olympics North America. Wyllie most recently was svp-communications for the NFL’s Washington Redskins since 2010. His three-decade career also includes PR/communications w the St. Louis (now Los Angeles) Rams, Tennessee Titans and Houston Texans.

• The Los Angeles Clippers have signed a deal with Los Angeles-based tech firm Honey, which includes naming rights to team's renovated Honey Training Center: Home of the L.A. Clippers and its logo on team practice jerseys. According to Honey, "10 million-plus members worldwide use Honey's suite of free tools daily to save time and money when shopping online.”

• Washington Mystics forward-guard Elena Delle Donne has been named 2019 WNBA MVP.  It is the second MVP award for seven-year player, making her the first player in WNBA history to earn the honor with two different teams (2015 Chicago Sky).

• BMW Group Russia has signed a deal with tennis star Daniil Medvedev, currently ranked No. 4 in the world, who fell in five sets to Rafael Nadal in the recent U.S. Open Grand Slam finals. Medvedev, who will represent Russia in the inaugural ATP Cup tournament in Australia this January, will participate in various brand activities, including a BMW patch on his shirt, in Russia and worldwide to be unveiled at a later date.

• SoFi Stadium, which will be the new $6 billion home venue for the NFL’s Los Angeles Rams and Chargers beginning in 2020, will open July 25-26 with two Taylor Swift concerts.

• CBD edible company Bhang, Miami, has acquired Red Ace, a leading organic beverage company. Bhang plans to launch a Red Ace-branded line of CBD/terpene-style beverages and products, including functional sparkling beverages. Athlete ambassadors include Christian Ramirez, Russell Canouse and Kelyn Rowe (MLS) and Spencer Keiboom (Washington Nationals). Red Ace products are currently sold at more than 1,400 locations, including Whole Foods and Amazon.

• The Paley Center for Media, NY, will honor the 100th season of the NFL with a new exhibit: "A Century of Football: Celebrating the NFL’s 100th Season," free and open to the public (Sept. 14-Oct. 27), which includes the first public screening of the only known complete broadcast of Super Bowl I (then known as the AFL-NFL World Championship Game) in January 1967 between the Green Bay Packers and the Kansas City Chiefs

• Pete Frates and Pat Quinn, co-founders of ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, have launched with The ALS Assn. the 5th anniversary of “Challenge Me” with a “new call to action to reignite the passion and generosity of the millions of people who dumped ice water on their heads in the summer of 2014.”

En Route To San Francisco, Warriors Sign Deal With Fanatics For Chase Center

The NBA’s Golden State Warriors plan to arrive in San Francisco in style.

The team has signed a long-term deal naming Fanatics, a  global leader for licensed sports merchandise, as the exclusive operator of all Warriors Shop locations throughout the Bay Area.

According to the team, the omni-channel retail partnership will “significantly broaden the assortment and availability of high-quality merchandise for fans across online, mobile and on-site retail stores.”

Financial terms of the alliance were not released.

The Warriors will move from Oakland’s Oracle Arena to San Francisco’s new $1.4 billion Chase Center, an 18,064-seat sports and entertainment arena set to open in September.

Chase Center will anchor Thrive City, a multipurpose, privately financed complex in Mission Bay neighborhood to include 3.2 acres of publicly accessible plazas and open space, part of a larger mixed-use development including office buildings and restaurant and retail locations.

Fanatics’ operated Warriors Shop locations include San Francisco’s Market Street, Walnut Creek, Santa Clara; and the new, multi-level 10,000 sq. ft. flagship location in Thrive City and stores inside of Chase Center.

The Warriors last month signed a multi-year renewal of their alliance with Ticketmaster in which the ticket marketplace becomes a founding partner of the new venue.

In addition to naming rights partner Chase, Chase Center founding partners also include Accenture, Google Cloud, Hewlett-Packard, PepsiCo, RingCentral and United Airlines.

With the Warriors’ pact, Fanatics said it now has a dozen e-commerce deals with NBA teams, including five with omni-channel and venue operation: the Warriors, Memphis Grizzlies, New Orleans Pelicans, Sacramento Kings and Washington Wizards,

The Warriors have built a solid domestic and global following over the past five seasons, winning three NBA titles and five consecutive Western Division title.

According to the NBA, the Warriors have ranked in the Top Three in all team merchandise sales, including 2016 and 2017, when the team led the NBA in merchandise sales.

All-Star guard Stephen Curry has ranked in the Top Five in league jersey sales over the last six seasons, including three-straight seasons in which his jersey was the most-purchased among all players (2016, 2017, 2018).

“Fanatics is the unquestioned industry leader in retail and e-commerce solutions for sports licensed merchandise,” Rick Welts, Warriors president and COO, said via the team.

“This partnership with Fanatics will provide fans with an enhanced, seamless, omni-channel shopping experience including the new, world-class Warriors Shop at Thrive City, just outside the main entrance to Chase Center.”

According to Fanatics CEO Doug Mack, Given our large employee presence in the Bay Area it is a very special place for our company, which makes us all proud to be a part of the Warriors’ ambitious vision for Chase Center and Thrive City,

The Warriors are scheduled to play their first preseason game in the Chase Center against the Los Angeles Lakers on Oct. 5.
