WNBA Unveils New App, Web Site, Multi-Media ’23 Campaign: ‘More Than A Game’

May 16, 2023: With the 2023 WNBA Tip-Off presented by CarMax May 19-21, the WNBA has unveiled its official multi-platform campaign and tagline for the league’s 27th season, “More Than Game.”
The WNBA today also launched its reimagined global digital platforms — WNBA App and WNBA.com — in collaboration with Deloitte, one of the league’s inaugural group of WNBA Changemaker corporate partners.
“Developed as an enhanced one-stop source for fans with live games, schedules, real-time stats, score updates and standings, the new platforms bring WNBA fans closer to the game and their favorite teams and players than ever,” according to the WNBA.
“The reimagined WNBA App and WNBA.com delivers a more accessible, immersive, and authentic experience to our fans,” Colie Edison, WNBA chief growth officer, said via the league.
“With Deloitte’s insights and collaboration, we have been able to increase capacity and supercharge our output, taking our digital products to the next level.”
WNBA League Pass, the league’s direct-to-consumer subscription offering, will be integrated into the WNBA App, giving people the ability to stream games on their phone, tablet or connected devices.
The new campaign and redesigned app and Web site come as the WNBA said it has suspended Becky Hammon, head coach for the defending champion Las Vegas Aces, and rescinded the team’s 2025 first-round draft pick due to violations of the CBA and also its Respect in the Workplace policies regarding former player Dearica Hamby. The “More Than Game” campaign expands on 2022’s “More Than” theme, “as the WNBA and its athletes fiercely compete not only on the hardwood, but with anything and everything else that comes their way.”
The “More Than Game” spot debuted today (May 15) across WNBA social media platform, and will begin airing on May 18 during the NBA Western Conference Finals Game 2 on ESPN.
According to the league, “More Than Game takes what’s already loved about the WNBA and shows that there’s even more. More passion. More multidimensional. More perfection. More prime time.”
The anchor spot features hip-hop star Coi Leray narrating over her hit 2023 song, “Players” (which reached the Billboard Hot 100 Top 10”.
“This league is a sisterhood. It’s way more than just a game. It’s an empire. A fearless empire. More sideswiping steals? Check! We got hoop, drive and passion. Easy. More buckets? Extra sauce? Order up. More dimension-defining dimes. More dancing than a Saturday night. Now this is what I call prime time.”
WNBA Tip-Off weekend begins May 19 and will see six-time WNBA All-Star Brittney Griner — who missed the entire 2022 season due to her wrongful detainment in Russia — return to the court alongside Diana Taurasi when the Phoenix Mercury visit the Los Angeles ( ESPN 11 PM ET).
On May 21, ESPN and ESPN+ will feature the Mercury’s home opener against the Chicago Sky when Griner plays her first home game in Phoenix (4 PM ET).
Last month, describing it as a plan to “expand the league's media horizon and reach basketball fans in greater numbers,” the WNBA unveiled a multi-year pact with The E.W. Scripps Company to televise games on Friday nights during the regular season on ION.
WNBA games this season will also air on ESPN, ABC, CBS, Paramount+, CBS Sports Network, NBA TV, Meta Horizon Worlds and Twitter.
The 2023 regular season will include a record-high 40 games per team, up four games from the previous high of 36 last season. Each team will play 20 home games and 20 road games.
The WNBA has also unveiled a number of rule changes that will impact on- and off-court actions.
Among the changes will be a Coach’s Challenge, a Transition Take Foul, new Bench Conduct rules to reduce disruptions and distractions during live play and a modification of Resumption of Play Procedures.
The third year of the in-season tournament Commissioner’s Cup presented by Coinbase begins with games on May 19 and runs through July 12 before the top teams play for the title.
On July 15, the 2023 AT&T WNBA All-Star Game in Las Vegas will air for the first time in prime time on ABC.

CBS Sports said "Skylar Diggins-Smith was not included on the list because she is pregnant and her status for the upcoming season is still uncertain.” There are no rookies on the list.
