Play It Forward: WNBA GM’s Pick Lynx To Win Title, Delle Donne MVP, Plum ROY

By Barry Janoff

May 10, 2017: In anticipation of the 2017 WNBA season, which begins this weekend, 12 GMs across the league participated in the 15th Annual WNBA.com GM Survey, predicting such outcomes as league champion, MVP, most impactful off-season moves, top coach, top players by position, most under-rated player, toughest player and best international player.

The Minnesota Lynx were picked to win the franchise’s fourth WNBA championship in seven years, and Elena Delle Donne, who was traded to the Washington Mystics during the off-season, was selected as the favorite for WNBA Most Valuable Player.

The WNBA also unveiled a new partnership that makes FanDuel the league’s first official, one-day fantasy partner of the WNBA.

According to the WNBA, people will be able to access the "official one-day fantasy game of the WNBA" and compete against others for daily WNBA prizes, including courtside tickets to regular season games, WNBA experiences, merchandise and memorabilia.

The official one-day fantasy game, available throughout the entire WNBA regular season and playoffs, is free to all fans via FanDuel.com, the FanDuel app and WNBA.com, according to the league. (Details here.)

"We are constantly looking to innovate by finding new opportunities to engage with our passionate fans and introduce the WNBA to wider audiences," WNBA president Lisa Borders said in a statement. "This partnership with FanDuel and our new one-day fantasy game will be a fresh, unique way for fans to further connect with their favorite WNBA players and teams throughout our season."

Along with the official one-day fantasy game, between May 13-20, people will have access to the "WNBA Tip-Off Challenge," a series of special edition, free-to-play games for the chance to win WNBA Store credit, tickets to WNBA games, and a grand prize fan experience including courtside seats to the WNBA Finals with a basketball legend.

According to the WNBA.com GM Survey, Washington’s acquisition of Delle Donne and its signing of veteran free agent guard Kristi Toliver, who helped the Los Angeles Sparks win the title last season, were seen as the biggest moves of the off-season by 92% of GMs.

The same number also considered Delle Donne to be the one player acquisition who will make the biggest impact, while 67% named the Mystics as the most improved team.

In addition to being selected as the championship favorite, the Lynx were named the team with the best home-court advantage (58%) while the Sparks were tapped as the "most fun team" to watch (25%).
