WrestleMania 35: All That And More As Event Sets Attendance, Money Marks

By Barry Janoff

April 8, 2019: WWE staged WrestleMania 35 in MetLife Stadium last night, and the mega-event set records even before the last match — which itself was historic — was completed.

WrestleMania 35 broke the record for MetLife Stadium’s highest-grossing entertainment event — $16.9 million — topping the venue’s previous record of $12.3 million set by WrestleMania 29 in 2013.

Over the past 12 years, WrestleMania has generated more than $1.2 billion in cumulative economic impact for the cities that have hosted the event, said WWE.

The crowd of 82,265 people (from all 50 states and 68 countries) is now No. 3 on the all-time WrestleMania list, behind the 101,763 at WrestleMania 32 in AT&T Stadium and 93,173 at WrestleMania 3 in the Pontiac Silverdome,

“We are thrilled that WrestleMania’s return to WWE’s ‘front yard’ delivered incredible results,” John Saboor, WWE evp-special events, said via the organization.

“This would not have been possible without the tireless support of New Jersey governor Phil Murphy and our public and private sector partners throughout the New York and New Jersey region."

In another historic moment, Becky Lynch took the Winner Take All Match versus Ronda Rousey and Charlotte Flair to capture both the Raw and SmackDown Women's Titles, the first time a women’s match was the featured event in WrestleMania history.

Among other results, Kofi Kingston won his \first WWE championship by defeating Daniel Bryan, Seth Rollins defeated "The Beast" Brock Lesnar to claim the Universal Title, Carmella eliminated The Riott Squad’s Sarah Logan to win the WrestleMania Women’s Battle Royal; and Jimmy & Jey Uso fought off Ricochet & Aleister Black, The Bar and Shinsuke Nakamura & Rusev in a Fatal 4-Way to retain the SmackDown Tag Team Titles

Snickers was the exclusive presenting partner of WrestleMania for the fourth consecutive year.

As part of the weeklong WrestleMania celebration, WWE will host five consecutive nights of events in MetLife Stadium and Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

According to Gov. Murphy, “WWE outdid themselves by creating an even more exciting WrestleMania than we experienced six years ago.

“The WWE Universe helped deliver significant economic results to New Jersey, and we look forward to the opportunity of hosting WrestleMania again in the future.”

WrestleMania 36 is scheduled for April 5, 2020 in Raymond James Stadium, Tampa Bay, FL. Ticket information will be released later this year.

“We now turn our attention to next year, where WrestleMania will make a historic Tampa Bay debut,” said Saboor.
