WWE Scores Big At WrestleMania

April 7, 2009: While much of the sports world this past weekend was watching the NCAA men's and women's tournaments, opening night of the 2009 MLB season, and NBA and NHL teams vie for playoff spots, World Wrestling Entertainment was setting a new revenue record during the 25th anniversary of WrestleMania. The event, shown on PPV from Reliant Stadium in Houston on April 5, grossed $6.9 million in revenue, according to WWE, making it the highest grossing live event in WWE history. WWE also pointed out that with 72,744 in attendance, WrestleMania XXV surpassed the attendance figure from Super Bowl XLIII in Tampa, which was 70,774. WWE said it plans to set more new records at WrestleMania XXVI, which will take place at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, AZ on Sunday, March 28, 2010. "The 25th anniversary of WrestleMania proved that everything is indeed bigger in Texas,” John Saboor, svp-special events for WWE, said in a statement. Back to Home Page
