McMahon Leaving WWE - Shane, Not Vince

(Photo: WWE)October 16, 2009: Another McMahon is departing from World Wrestling Entertainment with the decision by Shane McMahon, regarded as one of the firm's most powerful figures as evp-global media, to tender his resignation, effective Jan. 1, 2010. A replacement has not yet been named.
McMahon's mother, Linda, recently stepped down as CEO to vie for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senator in Connecticut. Vince McMahon, the founder and chairman of WWE, assumed the CEO duties. Stephanie McMahon, Vince's daughter and Shane's younger sister, also remains with WWE as evp-creative development and operations.
Although he did not detail where he would be going, the 39-year-old Shane McMahon, who has also been a pro wrestler with WWE, said in a statement, "I have never even considered a future outside the walls of the WWE. However, sometimes life takes an unexpected turn and while it is the most difficult decision I have ever made, it is time for me to move on."
“Even though I am personally saddened by Shane’s decision to leave the company, I am proud of the enormous contributions he has made," Vince McMahon said in a statement. "He will unquestionably bring passion, commitment and extensive business experience to any endeavor he pursues."
The younger McMahon appears to be leaving on good terms, at least based on his parting statements. "It has been an incredible experience to help build WWE into a global phenomenon. However, having been associated with this organization for the majority of my life, I feel this is the opportune time in my career to pursue outside ventures.”
