March 25, 2019: When WrestleMania 35 hits MetLife Stadium on April 7, it will be historic in one category and seek to become historic in others.

WWE said that for the first time at WrestleMania a women’s match would be the main event, with a scheduled Raw Women’s Championship Match featuring Ronda Rousey, Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch.

WWE will also seek to set a WrestleMania attendance mark for MetLife Stadium (East Rutherford, NJ, home of the NFL’s New York Giants and New York Jets).

WrestleMania 29 in MetLife Stadium on April 7, 2013, posted an attendance of 80,676, which also is the third-largest attendance figure in WrestleMania history.

In addition, WWE will try to set new financial marks for the region.

WrestleMania 29 grossed in excess of $72 million and generated $101.2 million in economic impact for the New Jersey/New York region, according to a study conducted for WWE by the Enigma Research Corporation.

Top billing in that event saw The Rock go head-to-head against John Cena and Triple H battle Brock Lesna.

Over the past 12 years, WrestleMania has generated more than $1.2 billion in cumulative economic impact for the cities that have hosted the event, said WWE.

The mark is held by WrestleMania 33 in the Orlando Citrus Bowl in 2017, which generated $181.5 million in direct, indirect and induced impact derived from spending in the Orlando region.

On April 7, for the fourth consecutive year. Snickers will be the exclusive presenting partner of WrestleMania, streaming live worldwide on WWE Network.

WWE and Mars Inc. have expanded their alliance, with Snickers set to receive “significant visibility and consumer engagement across WWE’s global platforms at WrestleMania.

Snickers will have a presence at WrestleMania Axxess, WWE’s five-day, interactive fan festival at Pier 12 in Brooklyn, NY; plus custom digital and social content sponsorships on WWE.com and YouTube as part of a multi-platform media campaign.

As part of the weel-long extended WrestleMania 35 takeover of New York, the New York Mets will host WWE Day at Citi Field on April 6 as part of its game vs. the Washington Nationals.

At WrestleMania 32 in 2016, WWE re-branded the Divas Division the Women’s Division and unveiled a new Women’s Championship title.

Since then, WWE said it has placed a greater spotlight on its female performers, including “more prominent storylines and deeper character development that showcases their athleticism, charisma and star power.”

Last October, WWE held it’s first all-women’s pay-per-view event, Evolution, in the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, Uniondale, New York.

Rousey is the current Raw Women’s Champion, Olympic medalist, the first female UFC Champion and the first woman to be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame.

Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Joan Jett will perform live at WrestleMania 35 playing her classic song “Bad Reputation” when Rousey makes her entrance to the ring to defend her title.

“The Queen of Rock ‘N Roll, Joan Jett, is a music legend and icon for powerful women everywhere.” Neil Lawi, svp and GM, WWE Music Group,” said via the WWE.

“Her performance at this year’s WrestleMania promises to be both exhilarating and inspiring, and we are honored to watch her join a distinct list of extraordinary performers who have lit up the WWE stage.”

Flair is a seven-time WWE champion.

Lynch is the 2019 Women's Royal Rumble winner, a two-time SmackDown Women’s Champion and was named Wrestler of the Year by both Sports Illustrated and CBS Sports in 2018.

Among the other prime matches scheduled for WrestleMania 35, Universal champion Lesnar will take on Seth Rollins, Triple H and Batista will square off in a No Holds Barred match, Shane McMahon will battle The Miz and AJ Styles will take on Randy Orton “in a battle to see who has the right to call SmackDown LIVE their house.”
