WWE Shows That WrestleMania Continues To Be The Real 'Raw' Deal

April 4, 2011: World Wrestling Entertainment events may not really be for real, but its numbers certain are true.
The WWE said it set new marks for the second consecutive year when WrestleMania XXVII on April 3 became the highest grossing and most attended entertainment event at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.
According to WWE, WrestleMania XXVII grossed $6.6 million, with 71,617 in attendance. The sold out event was also broadcast around the world on pay-per-view in more than 100 countries and 20 languages.
The previous attendance record at the Georgia Dome for an entertainment event was set by The Backstreet Boys, which drew 65,658 fans on February 19, 2000. A U2 concert on October 6, 2009, which grossed $5.7 million, was the Georgia Dome’s previous highest grossing entertainment event.
Marketing partners for the event included Kmart, the National Guard and Slim Jim.
“WrestleMania XXVII was an overwhelming success and one for the Atlanta history books," John Saboor, svp-special events for the WWE, said in a statement of the event, which was host by Dwyane "The Rock" Johnson and included an appearance by Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi of Jersey Shore. “WWE would like to thank our public and private sector partners for helping to make WWE’s annual pop-culture extravaganza a memorable one. We now look forward to building on that success as we head to next year’s WrestleMania in Miami.”
Wrerstlemania XXVI set attendance and financial records at the University of Phoenix Stadium last March 28, with 72,219 at the venue and $5.8 million in gross sales.
WrestleMania XXVIII is scheduled for April 1, 2012 at Sun Life Stadium in Miami. Ticket information will be announced later this year.
