MLB Cubbies Swinger Kris Bryant Gets His Smooth On With Express Clothing Deal

By Barry Janoff
March 3, 2016: Kris Bryant, entering his second season as third baseman for the Chicago Cubs, knows how to look good at the plate and on the field.
Now, he seeks to hone his sense of fashion away from Wrigley Field.
Bryant has signed a deal to become brand ambassador for the Express line of men's clothing, and will appear in multi-media marketing including TV, print, digital, social media, in-store platforms and Internet, with a dedicated destination at Express' Web site that drills down deeper into his life and style.
Financial terms of the alliance were not disclosed.
Bryant follows in the sports footsteps of the NBA's Stephen Curry, who endorsed the brand last year.
"Express' ongoing mission is to engage our customers with exemplary role models," David Kornberg, president and CEO for Express, said in a statement. "Kris is one of the world's most talented athletes and with his confident style, hard work ethic and unrelenting determination, we know he is going to be a game-changer for baseball and Express alike."
Bryant last season was named the NL Rookie of the Year after a campaign that included 26 HRs, 99 RBIs and a trip to the NL championship series, the team's first such in a dozen seasons, where the Cubs lost to the New York Mets.
The 24-year-old Bryant also has deals that include adidas and Red Bull.
"On and off the field, I am always ready for new, exciting opportunities," said Bryant in a statement. "Express has consistently been my go-to brand– whether I'm suiting up for press conferences or relaxing in jeans on my off days. I am honored to join Express as brand ambassador and look forward to being part of a brand that is true to my personal style and inspires fans."
The initial spot, "The Big League," follows Bryant on a photo shoot for Express as he recounts the events of 2015 that led him to this point. "This year has definitely been one of the best years of my life," he says. "Making it to the Big Leagues, winning Rookie of the Year. The team won a lot of games and went pretty far in the playoffs.
"Express is something that I've worn before, my family wears it," he says. "They say if you look good, you play good. So if you look good off the field, that definitely helps you play good on the field. Every play has their own style. I just try to be myself (and) not copy anybody." (See the full spot here.)
According to Express, Bryant's initial campaign would feature him in "apparel for all wearing occasions, from classic cotton sateen Photographer suits and Tech 1MX shirts for dressing up, to casual stretch denim and signature polos for every day."
