MLB All-Star Game 2025 Voting

* ESPN: The Buss family has entered into an agreement to sell majority ownership of the Los Angeles Lakers to Mark Walter at a valuation of approximately $10 billion. It marks the largest sale of a professional sports franchise in the world.

Jeanie Buss will continue to serve in her role as Lakers governor.

Walter, the CEO of diversified holding company TWG Global, has interests in multiple professional sports organizations, including the Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles Sparks, the Billie Jean Cup, Cadillac Formula 1 team and the Professional Women's Hockey League.

The Lakers have been owned by the Buss family since 1979, when Jerry Buss purchased the franchise from Jack Kent Cooke in a $67.5 million transaction that also included the Los Angeles Kings and the Los Angeles Forum. (Full story here.)

NCAA Sees Decline In Harassment Of Athletes

• WWE in partnership with the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority that Las Vegas will host WrestleMania 42 in Allegiant Stadium on Saturday, April 18 and Sunday, April 19, 2026.

WWE said WrestleMania 41 this past April in Las Vegas was the most successful and highest-grossing event in its history, drawing 124,693 fans over two nights in Allegiant Stadium. WrestleMania 42 will mark the third time Las Vegas has hosted WWE's biggest event of the year (2026, 2025 and 1993).

WWE will also bring Monday Night Raw, Friday Night SmackDown, Stand & Deliver and WWE World – a multi-day interactive fan experience hosted in partnership with Fanatics Events – to Las Vegas, as well as a variety of other fan and community events designed to give back to the local region.

• The WTA has introduced a measure that provides ranking protection for WTA athletes who choose to undergo fertility protection. The WTA said the development and adoption of the Fertility Protection Special Entry Ranking Rule has been championed by WTA players and delivers a further enhancement to the existing package of benefits empowering players to combine professional sport with family life.

Players can now take time away from professional tennis for a fertility protection procedure such as egg or embryo freezing and safely return to competition with a protected ranking.

The rule expands the WTA’s comprehensive Family Focus Program, which includes ranking protection during pregnancy, or another means of parenthood, and postpartum support with a return to play.

• AP Sports: The global watchdog of doping in sports said it will urge public authorities to shut down the drug-fueled Enhanced Games planned in Las Vegas next year.

"We will urge the U.S. authorities to find legal ways to block this initiative," World Anti-Doping Agency president Witold Banka said on the sidelines of a meeting of Olympic sports bodies. "This initiative seeks to normalize the use of potentially dangerous drugs.This initiative seeks to normalize the use of potentially dangerous drugs,"

Organizers of the games scheduled for next May promise $1 million bonuses to beat world record times by athletes who will be encouraged to use performance-enhancing drugs under medical supervision. (Full story here.)

• Warner Bros. Discovery unveiled plans to separate the company, in a tax-free transaction, into two publicly traded companies. The Streaming & Studios company will consist of Warner Bros. Television, Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group, DC Studios, HBO, and HBO Max, as well as their film and television libraries. Global Networks will include premier entertainment, sports and news television brands around the world including CNN, TNT Sports in the U.S.

• Denver NWSL said Peyton Manning has joined the club’s ownership group. Manning joins a  Denver NWSL ownership group led by controlling owner Rob Cohen, and including investors Ariel Investments’ Project Level, Jon-Erik Borgen, Kaia Borgen Moritz, Neelima Joshi, Dhiren Jhaveri, Molly Coors, and Mikaela Shiffrin. the league’s 16th franchise. • Las Vegas Journal-Review: The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority is sponsoring Aces players for the second straight season, offering each player on the roster $100,000.

It appears as if every member of the team has signed contracts, LVCVA president Steve Hill told the Review-Journal on Monday. There are currently 13 players on the roster, including Megan Gustafson (injured) and Cheyenne Parker-Tyus (pregnant).

This development comes after the WNBA said it was opening an investigation into the Aces one day after the LVCVA announced the first sponsorships in May 2024.

Hill said the LVCVA has not heard from the WNBA regarding the status of the investigation. At April’s WNBA draft, commissioner Cathy Engelbert said there were still no updates in the probe. (Full story here.)

• Yahoo Sports: The New York Liberty are the most valuable team in the WNBA, worth nearly half a billion dollars based on a recent valuation.

The New York Liberty have raised capital from a group of investors in a deal that values the franchise at $450 million . . . the largest valuation ever for a pro women's sports team. Last summer, the Dallas Wings sold two half-percent stakes in the franchise at a $208 million valuation. Earlier this month, entrepreneur Alexis Ohanian paid $26.5 million for an 8 percent stake in Chelsea Women, which values the team at $326 million.

The Liberty are owned by Clara Wu Tsai and her husband, Joe Tsai, who also co-own the Brooklyn Nets.

• ESPN: The National Women's Soccer League said that it would abandon future games when players have life-threatening emergencies, acknowledging the game should have ended after Angel City's Savy King collapsed on the field during a match on May 9.

Play resumed after roughly 10 minutes of medical attention, and the game between Angel City and the Utah Royals was completed. King subsequently underwent surgery for a heart abnormality discovered after her collapse.

The NWSL Players Association said the game should not have continued, and the union called for future games to be abandoned because of medical emergencies. (Full story here.)

• AP Sports: Paul Allen’s estate said that it has begun the process of selling the Portland Trail Blazers. The sale of the team is “consistent with Allen’s directive to eventually sell his sports holdings and direct all estate proceeds to philanthropy,” the Trail Blazers said in a statement.

Allen, the billionaire co-founder of Microsoft, died in 2018 at age 65 from complications of non-Hodgkin lymphoma. CNBC earlier this year valued the Trail Blazers at $3.65 billion. (Full story here.)

NHL Top Players From Past Quarter Century

• Sky Sports: The Women's World Cup will be expanded from 32 to 48 teams in time for the 2035 tournament in the United Kingdom. The decision was taken during a virtual FIFA Council meeting on Friday. It will take effect from 2031 when the Women's World Cup is due to be staged in the United States. The number of matches will jump from 64 under the 32-team format to 104 - as will be the case at the men's World Cup in 2026 in the USA, Canada and Mexico.

"This decision ensures we are maintaining the momentum in terms of growing women's football globally," said FIFA president Gianni Infantino. (Full story here.)

• Sports Collectors Daily: An auction of items from the life and career of Bill Walton is underway. hundreds of items, including Walton’s championship rings from UCLA and the Portland Trailblazers, game-worn and game-used gear and other memorabilia, have been consigned by his family to Hunt Auctions.

Bidding opened May 6 and will close in a live, online format on June 11. Walton, a Hall of Fame player died in May of 2024 at age 71 after battling cancer. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Orthopedic Department of the University of California San Diego.

MLB Extends At-Bat With Durant’s Boardroom

• CBS Sports: The NWSL has filed an application with U.S. Soccer to launch a Division II league in 2026 with the intention of furthering player development, marking the latest development in the evolving lower-league club landscape in women's soccer in the United States.

The NWSL has eight affiliated teams from its existing Division I league lined up for the inaugural season of the Division II league -- Bay FC, Kansas City Current, North Carolina Courage, NJ/NY Gotham FC, Orlando Pride, Racing Louisville, Seattle Reign and the Washington Spirit.

• CBS Sports: Five years ago, more than 4,400 Division I men's basketball players were legally and collectively paid a grand total of $0 in NIL earnings. That number is now promised to be in the hundreds of millions. A year ago, a handful of schools were able to easily clear $5 million. But now? That budget number has doubled — minimally.

These programs either have $10 million committed already or are easily capable of reaching that total in roster-building efforts by the end of this year's transfer cycle: Arkansas, BYU, Duke, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville, Michigan, North Carolina, St. John's and Texas Tech. (Full story here.)

• Social Change Fund United, founded by NBA icons Carmelo Anthony, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Paul, has joined with Stackwell, a fintech platform “committed to expanding financial market access,” and the National Basketball Players Association Foundation (NBPA Foundation)” to drive meaningful economic impact in historically under-resourced communities.”

The SCFU Visionary Ventures Program is designed to support small businesses, piloting first in the Los Angeles Community with the goal to expand and scale across the U.S.

• Yahoo Sports: Paige Bueckers, fresh off her NCAA championship with UConn, has reportedly signed a three-year contract with the three-on-three league Unrivaled, As the No. 1 overall pick, Bueckers would make $78,831 in her first year in the WNBA, under the league's current rookie scale. That number would go up annually, with Bueckers earning $348,198 in total over her first four years in the league.  Players in Unrivaled also receive equity in the league.

Bueckers signed an NIL deal with Unrivaled this year ahead of its inaugural season, becoming the first NCAA player to do so. (LSU's Flau'jae Johnson later signed a deal with the league as well.) Although she did not participate in the 2025 season, Bueckers planned to join the league after the end of her college career as a result of the deal.

• AP Sports: The U.S. Olympic team received its biggest donation ever — $100 million — to fund $100,000 payments and matching life insurance benefits for anyone who earns a spot on Team USA starting next year.

The donation to the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Foundation is from Ross Stevens, the founder and CEO of Stone Ridge Holdings Group, a finance firm that focuses on “nontraditional” investment options such as crypto and fine art. (Full storu jere.)
• Mothers Against Drunk Driving is calling on everyone to make safety a top priority. By planning a safe ride home before kickoff, fans can help save lives and ensure game day is unforgettable for all the right reasons.

Alcohol consumption and impaired driving often increase during major sporting events like the Super Bowl, particularly around pre-game gatherings, halftime, and post-game celebrations. According to the latest data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration cited by MADD, 45% of all fatal crashes on Super Bowl Sunday in 2022 involved alcohol.

• College Football Playoff has named Las Vegas to host the national championship game in Allegiant Stadium Jan. 25, 2027. Miami will host the next national championship game on Jan. 19, 2026 in Hard Rock Stadium. (Promo spot here.)

• The NFL Alumni Assn. and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Division of Cancer Prevention and Control have launched "GEAR UP Against Cancer,” which  aims to raise awareness about the impact of colorectal cancer, emphasize the importance of regular screenings, and create a deeper understanding of the unique needs of cancer survivors.

According to the CDC, colorectal cancer is a leading cause of cancer death among men and women in the United States.
• Robert Kraft, owner of the New England Patriots, has launched through his Foundation to Combat Antisemitism “Stand Up to Jewish Hate,” a $25 million multi-media campaign to “raise awareness nationwide about soaring incidents of antisemitism online and in person.”

MLB has signed a multi-year partnership designating AstroTurf as its Official Synthetic Turf. AstroTurf will collaborate with MLB and additional league partners on select events and projects including the 2025 Speedway Classic presented by BuildSubmarines.com on Aug. 2. After the Speedway Classic, MLB is donating the AstroTurf system to East Tennessee State University for use by the university baseball team. Only five teams currently play on artificial turf: the Arizona Diamondbacks, Miami Marlins, Texas Rangers and Toronto Blue Jays. The Tampa Bay Rays (Tropicana Field) also play on AstroTurf but this seasonal are playing in Steinbrenner Field (which has a grass field).

The U.S. Open Mixed Doubles Championship for 2025 has been moved from the third week of the tournament to U.S. Open Fan Week Aug. 19-20, at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, with $1 million in prize money being awarded to the winning team. Ten of the current Top 11 women in the WTA singles rankings (Coco Gauff is not as yet entered) and ten of the current Top 11 men on the ATP Tour (Holger Rune is not currently included) have registered to compete for $1 million in prize money awarded to the winning team. It will air across ESPN platforms.

ESPN said June 14 was the third most-watched WNBA game ever shown on ABC: New York Liberty Vs Indiana Fever averaged 2.2M viewers, up 76% from last year’s ABC average. It featured the return of Fever’s Caitlin Clark, who missed five games due to left quadriceps strain, who scored 32 points as Indiana handed the defending champion Liberty (9-1) its first loss of the season. The Fever-Chicago Sky game May 17 averaged 2.7 million viewers and peaked at 3.1 million,  the league's second-largest average audience for any event, behind only the 2024 WNBA All-Star Game (3.44 million).

The ATP and LALIGA will offer an international MBA in sports management created exclusively for professional and former elite athletes. In collaboration with the ATP, the program is developed and coordinated by LALIGA BUSINESS SCHOOL, the educational branch of LALIGA. The inaugural edition, scheduled to begin in January 2026, builds upon the existing educational alliance between the ATP and LALIGA, which began three years ago with the launch of the “ATP & LALIGA Business Education Program.”

The E.W. Scripps Company has signed a new, multi-year agreement with the WNBA to continue airing regular season Friday night matchups on ION  – the league's Friday night national network home since 2023.

The NBA, WNBA, National Basketball Players Assn., Women's National Basketball Players Assn. and 2K, a wholly owned label of Take-Two Interactive Software and publisher of the NBA 2K series, said they have agreed in principle to terms for a new multiyear global partnership expansion. Top-ranked American tennis player Ben Shelton has signed with William Morris Endeavor, which also represents Serena Williams, Carlos Alcaraz, Iga Swiatek, Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe. He had been with Team8 since 2022, the management firm co-founded by Roger Federer and his agent Tony Godsick. Airbnb and FIFA have signed a three-year partnership spanning three tournaments: as an official partner for the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, an official supporter for the FIFA World Cup 26 in North America and an official supporter for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027 in the Americas.

The NBA said the NBA Mexico City Game 2025 would feature the Dallas Mavericks and the Detroit Pistons playing a regular-season game hosted by Zignia Live in the Arena CDMX in Mexico City, scheduled for Nov. 1, to coincide with traditional Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebrations locally for the second consecutive year. The Dia de Muertos theme will be showcased through a variety of in-arena activations during the game, including a specially themed basketball court and several fan engagement initiatives.

ESPN said Lee Corso’s final College GameDay is scheduled for Aug. 30 at Ohio State before the defending national champion Buckeyes host the Texas Longhorns. Corso, who turns 90 in August, said earlier this year his final show would be on the opening week of the season. Corso has been a part of college football’s premier pregame show since 1987.

The WNBA has launched the Line 'Em Up initiative to give girls and women "undeniable equity at the park" by painting the Fire Orange WNBA 3-point line on park courts across the country. It begins with Brooklyn (NY) Bridge Park and Rockefeller Battery Park in New York. “This line is more than paint. It's a landmark that honors the women who built this game — and an open invitation to the ones who'll take it even further. We're laying down the line. Make it yours."

ESPN Events, in collaboration with the Charlotte Sports Foundation, has unveiled the Dick Vitale Invitational, a men’s college basketball event that will annually honor Dick Vitale, the Hall of Fame broadcaster and one of the sport’s most iconic voices and ambassadors, who celebrates his 86th birthday today. The inaugural Dick Vitale Invitational will feature Texas Longhorns vs. Duke Blue Devils the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, N.C., The game is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2025 on ESPN.

MLB said that Players’ Weekend would return in 2025 for a second consecutive year, scheduled for the weekend of Aug. 15-17. Players’ Weekend will “showcase players’ backstories and bring attention to the other aspects of their lives that are important to them, including charitable causes.” Players will have the opportunity to auction off custom bats and cleats on MLB.com/Auctions to benefit charities of their choice.

According to the Boston Globe, NWSL expansion team Boston Legacy FC (2026) will play its first season in Gillette Stadium, home to the NFL New England Patriots and MLS New England Revolution while its permanent home venue, White Stadium, continues to undergo a $200 million renovation.

The New York Times: NWSL CMO and CCO Julie Haddon and chief sporting director Tatjana Haenni will leave the league this year as part of a front-office restructure.

HBO and NFL Films will  present two upcoming editions of the Hard Knocks series: Hard Knocks: Training Camp with the Buffalo Bills debuting Aug. 5, with new episodes of the five-part series premiering on subsequent Tuesdays through Sept. 2; and Hard Knocks: In Season with the NFC East debuting this December. Both series will be available to stream on HBO Max.

NBA Unveils 75th Anniversary Jerseys, Diamond Album: History Of The League

November 1, 2021: As part of the ongoing celebration of its 75th Anniversary Season, the NBA and Nike today unveiled the 2021-22 Nike NBA City Edition uniforms.

The jerseys were revealed on the anniversary of the first official game in NBA history.

On Nov. 1, 1946, the New York Knicks defeated the Toronto Huskies, 68-66, in Toronto. According to the NBA, any fan taller than Toronto’s 6-8 center George Nostrand got in free.

The NBA today also released the NBA Diamond Album, which “tells the history of the league and each team, showcasing the NBA uniform behind every iconic NBA moment.”

Individual team tracks correspond to the 28 teams unveiling the 2021-22 NBA City Edition uniforms.

The NBA said each 2021-22 Nike NBA City Edition team uniform “represents the ultimate basketball moments mixtape — a compilation of the franchise’s greatest hits through the years in every design.”

Beyond some of the more obvious design elements, the uniforms include many subtle touches (“Easter eggs”) that highlight pivotal moments from each team’s history.

Each 2021-22 Nike NBA City Edition uniform is supported with an integrated Game Theater collection and, for 16 teams, a court design that provides the ultimate platform to showcase the uniforms.

“The moments included in the Nike NBA City Edition uniforms span across decades and remind fans, old and new, of some of their fondest memories of their favorite teams,” Christopher Arena, NBA head of on-court and band partnerships, said via the league.

“The NBA’s 75th Anniversary season gave us a unique opportunity to work alongside the teams and Nike to bring the league’s rich history to life, showcasing each team's fandom in a truly special way.”

The 2021-22 Nike NBA City Edition uniforms will be available Nov. 15 online at NBAStore.com, Nike and select retailers globally.

People can visit LockerVision.NBA.com to view when each team is scheduled to debut its Nike NBA City Edition uniform on-court, along with each team’s outfitting calendar for the remainder of the season.
